Window & Door Rebates & Government Loans in Alberta

Energy-efficient window and door replacement in Canada

Save on Energy-Efficient Windows & Doors in Alberta

Alberta Window and Door Rebates and financing programs can help eligible homeowners reduce the upfront cost of energy-efficient upgrades. Available programs vary by municipality, homeowner eligibility, project type, and current funding availability.

Current options include Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) financing for qualifying energy-efficient windows and doors in participating municipalities, as well as HAT Smart rebates for eligible Medicine Hat homeowners.

Additional financing may also be available to eligible Alberta seniors through the Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP). Program requirements can change over time, so homeowners should confirm current eligibility before starting a project.

CEIP Financing for Energy-Efficient Windows & Doors

The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) offers financing for eligible energy-efficiency upgrades in participating Alberta municipalities. Energy-efficient windows and doors are included among the eligible residential upgrades.

CEIP financing is repaid through the property’s municipal tax bill, and repayment terms can extend for up to 20 years for some upgrades. Homeowners must live in a participating municipality and complete the required pre-qualification and approval process before starting the project.

Eligible projects generally require an EnerGuide Home Energy Evaluation, a Qualified Contractor, project approval, and supporting documentation. CEIP financing is not a rebate, and work should not begin until the project has been approved and authorization has been issued.

HAT Smart Window & Door Rebates in Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat homeowners may qualify for HAT Smart rebates when replacing eligible windows and exterior doors. For 2026, the program offers $250 per qualifying window, $250 per qualifying exterior or sliding glass door, and up to $2,500 per home specifically for window and door upgrades.

Qualifying windows must have a U-Factor of 1.22 W/m²-K or lower. Homeowners also need the required pre- and post-renovation EnerGuide Home Evaluations, contractor documentation, paid receipts, and product information. The 2026 program runs through December 15, 2026, subject to available funding and program requirements.

SHARP Financing for Alberta Seniors

Eligible Alberta seniors may be able to finance window replacement and other eligible home repairs through the Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP). Window replacement is specifically listed as an eligible home improvement under the program.

SHARP offers low-interest home equity loans of up to $40,000 for eligible Alberta seniors and senior couples with total annual income of $75,000 or less. Applicants must generally be age 65 or older, own and live in the home as their primary residence, and have sufficient home equity.

The SHARP interest rate is reviewed periodically. Monthly repayments are generally not required, with the loan typically becoming due when the property is sold, is no longer the owner’s primary residence, or ownership changes.
